Introduction

Access to healthcare continues to be an ongoing issue loaded with financial burdens. Those most marginalized in society face insurmountable health challenges as they lack the financial security to acquire proper healthcare. This unfortunate reality means many people suffer from many health issues as they cannot afford costly medical bills.

Access to healthcare for basic medical procedures, chronic illness, and emergency procedures should not be viewed as a luxury but as a necessity. This is the aim of The USAssist Patient Account Polyclinic Fund.

Our Mission

The USAssist Patient Account Polyclinic Fund is an initiative aiding qualified patients who have been denied (charitable) medical debt relief assistance from their healthcare providers. USAssist also accommodates insurance payment assistance for patients who receive longterm, critical care and lose health insurance coverage in the process due to delinquency in the payment of insurance premium compiled from loss of employment and other financial hardships.

Our Vision

We are dedicated to supporting patients and families faced with debilitating financial burdens following their discharge from a local hospital. We are introducing more just practices and opportunities/ leading to an equitable healthcare system that will serve all patients.

MedAlliesWorld® Lifeline Foundation envisions a world where those suffering from daunting medical bills can receive the necessary financial relief they require to return to leading a healthy and debt-free life.

The Challenge

Every year U.S. hospitals and affiliated physician practice groups receive millions of applications for (charitable) medical debt relief submitted by individual patients and by families facing a financial crisis. All medical debt-relief assistance applications are submitted privately by ordinary, hard-working people as well as the unemployed, the disabled, college students, and foreign patients facing minor to major healthcare problems coupled with overwhelming financial burdens. Individual medical debts range from below one hundred dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Many applicants (patients) believe there is a government-funded charity program in place to help applicants obtain debt relief from their attending hospitals and physicians. The fact is, there is no such relief programs in place. Most financial relief for medical debts provided to charity relief applicants represent a loss of income absorbed solely by the attending hospitals and physicians.

Based on the poverty guidelines applicable for evaluation, up to 80% of applicants may qualify for assistance. Therefore, it is simply not possible for healthcare providers to process medical debt relief applications without applying additional criteria beyond the poverty guideline consideration. Some applicants can qualify for all requirements set for granting charity-debt relief assistance but wind up being denied due to various factors including but not limited to:

  • under-insured.
  • residence outside the service area.
  • non-citizenship, etc.

The undeniable fact is that healthcare providers must also curtail the volume of charity relief allowances to avoid financial distress upon themselves.

Our Objectives

The USAssist Polyclinic Funding & Management (USAssist) proposes five, primary objectives that will empower us to achieve our mission. These objectives are:

  1. To assist in implementation and promotion of an all-time reliable Healthcare & Business Directory for the overall health industry beginning with the U.S., North America, and continental Africa (G.H.M. Media & Expo). This directory is a prime platform for brand promotion and networking for all sectors of the healthcare practice, dental practice, health and wellness, and the supply chain operations and management.
  2. To leverage the new Health Industry & Business Directory to generate funds for charitable medical debt relief in the U.S. through collaborative partnership with a network of Community Growth Members, Community Lifeline Partners, Community Market sponsors, strategic healthcare support partners, corporate sponsors, and through community events and online fundraising campaigns.
  3. To help negotiate special charity care allowances and compassionate pricing with medical service providers on behalf of those applicants who qualify under established (state / federal) poverty evaluation guidelines but are denied charity relief based on other factors.
  4. To assist hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare service providers clear their bad debt accounts by accepting partial payment from US-Assist Patient Account Polyclinic Fund as payment in full, thereby, allowing more charity relief applicants and their families the opportunity to economically regroup and recover.
  5. To help build a new medical clinic or acquire an existing facility in the regional DC / MD / VA area and convert such into a primary care clinic for the purpose of establishing a base for the USAssist Polyclinic Funding & Management Initiative. The USAssist Polyclinic Funding & Management is designed to provide affordable healthcare services in the USA and to serve as a model for implementing Polyclinic Afrik in continental Africa.
